SCIOS
What is SCIOS?
The SCIOS foundation manages and develops a quality system for installation owners and for inspection and installation companies for the inspection and maintenance of technical installations. This quality system is incorporated in the SCIOS certification scheme and the SCIOS certification scheme. It describes rules for the certification of companies and sets out the requirements with regard to training and experience of people working at those companies (source: www.scios.nl).
Our Diesel driven Firepacks (and fire pump sets supplied by other suppliers) also fall under this SCIOS certification regulation.
What does that mean for you?
From 2016, all diesel-powered fire-extinguishing pump sets are regarded by the government (laid down in “the activities decision”) as “combustion installations”. For that reason, these Diesel powered fire extinguishing pump sets must be periodically inspected and certified from that date in accordance with SCIOS regulations (scope 4). Fuel lines must be periodically inspected and certified in accordance with scope 7C. This concerns inspections in the field of maintenance and so-called “negligible soil risk”. With a SCIOS inspection you can demonstrate that the Firepack meets the requirements for combustion installations in current legislation and regulations.
Exception
Due to the limited number of operating hours (no more than 500 operating hours per year), the Diesel-driven fire extinguishing pump sets are exempt from inspections with regard to emission requirements.
Specific:
The following criteria apply to Diesel-powered fire pump sets:
| Thermal input power | Non-gas-fired installation |
| <20 kW | No mandatory installation |
| 20 - 100 kW | Once every 4 years |
| >100 kW | Once every 2 years |
In addition, there is an EBI (first special inspection) which, with existing fire extinguishing pump sets, must be carried out by the end of 2017 at the latest and is mandatory within 6 weeks of commissioning for new fire extinguishing pump sets. The fire extinguishing pump sets must also comply with a “negligible soil risk”. In short, this means that no liquids such as lubricating oil and / or fuel may end up in the environment.
what can van Wijk & Boerma mean for you?
Currently, Van Wijk & Boerma Firepacks defines the package of requirements that every Diesel driven fire extinguishing pump set must meet. In addition, our company will be “SCIOS certified”, which means that we will soon be authorized to carry out such inspections. Parallel to this, various technicians are trained to carry out the SCIOS inspections in the field.
Van Wijk & Boerma Firepacks is expected to be fully certified from June 2017. From that moment on we can carry out SCIOS inspections on all Diesel driven Firepacks (and all fire extinguishing pump sets from other suppliers).
If you have any questions about SCIOS regulations and / or certification of your fire extinguishing pump sets (whether or not Firepacks) do not hesitate to contact us.
